News of Staph Infection Advises Precautions

As a result of recent news reports about MRSA (Methicilllin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus), the
East Williston School District is taking steps to educate our student athletes about the spread of
MRSA, a potentially life threatening staph infection. While a good portion of our fall sports season
is over, we are taking steps to inform our remaining competitors and will continue to inform our
student athletes in the upcoming winter and spring sport seasons.

Here are some good hygiene practices that we would like to share with you to protect you and your
children from skin infections.

•·   Keep your hands clean by washing thoroughly with soap and water
or using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer

•·   Keep cuts and scrapes clean and covered with a bandage until
healed

•·   Avoid contact with other people's wounds or bandages

•·   Avoid sharing personal items such as towels or razors
