Predicting - Good readers make predictions before and during reading.  They are constantly trying to determine what will happen next and then checking to confirm if they 'guessed' correctly.  Predicting acts as an anchor for remembering because it gives students something to think about and refer back to while reading.  It also helps students become invested in reading, because they are actively trying to see if their prediction came "true".
