PUPIL PERSONNEL SERVICES


The following support services are available to North Side students who are determined to be eligible for the program.

 

Health Services:

Resource Room:

Students who are eligible for the program, based on diagnostic testing, are seen on a regular basis for remediation and academic support.

ESL:

Students are seen 3-4 times a week individually or in a small group, for English language development in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Remedial Reading:

The purpose of the program is to provide for the literacy development of the children in grades 2-4.  Eligibility for the program is based upon New York State requirements, teacher recommendations and classroom performance.

Math Support:

The purpose of the program is to provide for the support of the children in grades 3 and 4 in developing their math skills.  Eligibility for the program is based upon New York State requirements, teacher recommendations and classroom performance.

Speech:

The Speech and Language Program is available for students who require remediation of receptive/expressive language skills, articulation errors, auditory processing deficits, stuttering and voice problems.  Children are seen individually or in small groups.  Inclusion in the program is determined by the Speech Pathologist on the basis of need.

Psychological Services:

The school psychologist heads the school based child study team.  When deemed appropriate, and after written consent is obtained from parents, a psychological evaluation may be completed.  The psychologist conducts short term individual and group counseling.  She consults with teachers and parents and can provide referrals to outside mental health professionals.
