What are your thougths after?

Some of the things to have in your answer

  • your feelings about the dissection
    • nervous, excited, etc.....
  • how did the eye feel when you touched it
  • did it smell
  • was it easy or difficult
  • what did you like the most
  • what did you like the least
  • any other thoughts you had after the dissection
At first, when Dr. Braunstein brought the eye to our table, I was very scared and nervous, but after I learned what to do, I was just excited to dissect the eye. When I touched the eye, it felt squishy. The eye didn't smell (or maybe it did because I had a stuffy nose that day). The dissection was easy when Dr. Braunstein and Dr. Wen told us what to do. My favorite part was when I found the lens and put it onto a piece of paper and saw it enlarge the letters. I didn't really like the part when I found the cornea and this blackish gooey stuff came out. That is what I think about after I dissected a pig's eye.
I thought that the cow’s eye was gross. I didn't know that the vitreous humor was black. My favorite part was when I took out the lens and saw how the words on the paper got bigger. The retina was so hard to see because the vitreous humor is black. I got grossed out the beginning then I got used to it. It was a little gross and a little exciting.
I thought it was amazing. I liked seeing the lens and seeing how it magnified. I also liked feeling the aqueous humor. The eye was really cool!
I think that dissecting the eye was a great experience. I loved when I took out the lens. The pig's eye was cool. It didn't really have a smell but it wasn't a nice smell. The eye was slimy like a wet worm. I liked to see that my pig's eye had a blue pupil. If I had another chance to dissect an eye I would take that chance. I learned more about the eye and want to dissect another.
When I saw the eye I felt a little sick. Although, when I saw the people at my table touching it and cutting it open to see where the parts were I got the hang of it. My favorite part was when we found the lens and we checked if it was a convex or concave lens. However, ours got smushed so we didn't get to see if it was convex or concave lens. My least favorite part was when we cut open the eye I felt disgusted. I never knew the liquids in the eye were black. It was difficult to find the retina under all that black liquid. I will remember it always!
When I dissected the eye it was much cooler than I thought it would be. It was awesome how we took out the lens and got to see the words on the paper look bigger. It felt harder on the eye than in the back of the eye. It was really gooey and watery. It didn't smell to well but it looked really cool. When I cut open the eye all of the aqueous humor burst out. That’s what was awesome about dissecting the eye.
Dissecting the eye was very cool. It was kind of gross but I didn't barf like I thought I would. We watch videos about two different eye surgeries. My partners and I took out the lens and cornea. We also saw the iris and the pupil. It was just as I expected. It was gross but it taught us more about the eye. Though we had already finished our eye unit in science, this was very educational and taught us more about the eye than anyone could. I liked seeing that the lens magnified things on a piece of paper. It was fun and I hope we dissect things in the years to come. It was the most exciting thing that I did in science this whole school year and I hope I will do it enamelling more times. Not really, I'm just exaggerating. Like I said it was awesome and I hope Dr. Braunstien and Dr. Wen will come back to our school again.
My thoughts after dissecting the pig's eye have changed from before dissecting the pig's eye. I've noticed that dissecting the eye was way better than what I thought it would be. When I squeezed the lens out it shot through the air. When Dr. Wen cut the cornea open it was o.k.
When I saw the pupil split into two I thought Ashwin was going to throw up. These are my thoughts after dissecting the eye.
The eye was a lot bigger and squishier than I thought it would be. It was really fun even though it was so gross. I liked taking out the lens, cornea, and iris. When we took the lens out, we put it on the sheet of paper and saw that it was a convex lens. My favorite part was the video of the eye surgeries. The inside of the eye was all black. I think the grossest part was the vitreous humor. It was oozing out all over the place. The eye was not what I expected it to be.
I thought the eye dissection was fun. I liked cutting it in half. It weirdly didn’t smell like anything. I never knew the vitreous humor was black because the actual eye is white. It felt like a mixture of a wet leather ball and a rubber ball. It was cool because I got to see a real retina. I also thought it was cool to see a real optic nerve. The lens was a convex lens and it was cool how it magnifies. I thought it was cool.
The eye felt soft and cool in my hand. It was sort of icky and gooey. It was not easy or difficult, it was in the middle. I didn't think it smelled like anything. My favorite part was when I saw what the eye looked like from the inside. I didn't know that the vitreous humor was black. I thought it was white. I thought it was so cool when we put the lens on a letter and saw it get bigger. My least favorite part was when my group mushed the lens.
These are my thoughts after dissecting a pig's eye. At first I thought it was going to be gross but I was wrong. It was so cool how we opened the eye. I was the one who popped the lens out. We also saw the cornea. It was one of the best days of my life.
This dissection was nothing like I imagined. I thought it would be fun and gross at the same time, but it wasn't that gross and it was really fun. This was a great opportunity. I hope I could do this again someday. I never knew that the vitreous humor was black, that is amazing. Also I never knew that the lens in the eye is like a squishy jelly-like-substance. I had a lot of fun doing this dissection.
I was excited when I was holding the eye. It felt squishy when I touched it. When I smelled the eye I said, "This doesn't smell." It was hard when had to cut the eye. It was also funny because Mikey and I were ripping eye in half. I held one side and Mikey held the other side. When I let go some of the vitreous went on Mikey's shirt. The most fun part was when I squeezed the eye. The least part I liked was when I had to hold the eye with the clip.
I felt nervous about the dissection. I was grossed out because I didn't think the eye would actually look like that. The eye felt very squishy when I touched it. The eye did not smell because it probably was cleaned many times. It was pretty difficult because it was actually hard to tell where all the parts were! I liked the lens the most because it was cool how it can make words magnified. What I liked the least was the black substance inside the eye. I didn't get what it was because it was so strange-looking. Even if dissecting an eye can take some bravery, it was really fun to actually touch and dissect an eye! Also, thank you Dr.Braunstein and Dr.Wen for showing us what the eye looks like and how to dissect an eye! I hope I get a chance to dissect another animal's eye soon!
The dissection was a lot of fun. My thoughts were," Oh my goodness the dissection was the greatest thing I have ever done in school." I loved touching the eye, it was so cold and mushy. Alright, I will admit I was wrong, the eye DID smell. It smelt like a dead cow. I liked finding the lens. My friends and I couldn't find the lens. I loved watching Dr. Braunstein operate on people's eyes. I never knew the cornea could be so thin. I can't believe an eye would look so icky.
In the thoughts before blog, do you remember that I told you that I was totally grossed out? The exact opposite thing happened. When I first went into the Media Center, I thought I was going to puke! But when my partners and I cut everything out of the eye, I thought it was so cool! We found the lens, the pupil, everything! But the only thing I touched was the lens. I thought it was a great experience, but it's not like I'm going to be an eye surgeon when I grow up, though.
My feelings about the dissection are I was nervous at first, but now I am upset that it's over. When I touched this eye it was gooey and slimy( I think). We were wearing gloves so I don't really know what it felt like, all I know is it was cold and definitely slimy. It smelled like a pig. That is because it was pig's eye. It was easy to do but also hard. My favorite part was cutting open the eye because it was my first time cutting open an eye and it was amazing. My least favorite part was when it was over. I am an animal lover so it was hard for me. If I had a choice I definitely would do it again.
Well, to start things off (again) it really wasn't what I thought it would be. I guess it would have been more fun if people in my group hadn't hogged the tools and ripped it open. Not to complain, but who does that? Although I guess it was higher than my expectations on the funny meter. My group always made jokes about this. I am kind of grossed out by it though. It smelt like manuer on a lawn with pigs spraying mud on it without deodorant. When the eye first came out I actually almost threw up because it smelt so bad. The other kids in my group were like, " Come on Ashwin, it's not so bad". That's when some things went on the straight path to tranquility and others to the curvy path of wrongness. Although the best part was when I did get to touch it. When I finally got to touch it I was able to pop out the lens of the pig eye. It looked spectacular, sord of like a crystal ball. It was as clear as glass. It was as shiny as polished gold. The coolest part of the lens was that it could magnify things. As a joke one of the kids put it onto the illustration. The reason it was funny is because it illustrated a boy with a magnifying glass on one eye, so he put it on the boy's other eye. I can't believe that we got to watch eye surgery. We saw a cataract surgery. It looked extraordinary because the doctor was putting a jelly like substance onto the eye. At the same time he was squirting water into the eye to keep it from collapsing like sticks. We also got to see laser eye surgery. This I thought was the best part because I now know what happened to my friend's mother. They only work within the cornea and no further. Then they set up the laser and it looks like a video game (I loved this as I am a video game addict). Although this is really amazing and factual, what I learned was the coolest. I learned that the laser is actually invisible! Can you believe that an invisible laser corrects eyes? I am certain I can't. Well, maybe that's because I'm ten years old, but let's leave that out for now. One of my friends made a joke and he said that the eye was squishy and bouncy. Although he tried to make a joke, in reality, it really was squishy and bouncy! It was kind of fun to touch as you hand would just bounce off of the eye, except when you could squeeze it. When we squeezed it for the first time after the adults cut the cornea a little bit the lens popped out and we couldn't really even pick it up as it landed in the eye slime. After the dissection we really didn't talk about it much except right after we did the dissection. I guess that's false as we are talking about it (blogging about it) as we speak (type). My least favorite part was when we got to take out the pupil. We thought it was ink that was shot into the eye, but then someone came over and said it was the pupil. It looked extremely disgusting. I mean how would you like to destroy an eye. I don't know why, but somehow I feel guilty for taking a part a perfectly good pig eye. I would never want anyone to take away my eye and then cut it open. Even when I die I would feel uncomfortable, although I would give up my eyes to help improve science. Well, only if it helps. Actually, I would probably give up my whole body to help improve science. Well, hopefully you won't get bored to death when reading this. Bye!
I think that this dissection was great. It was a great experience. I was so surprised to see the eye in real life. I liked it when we cut open the eye and saw the vitreous humor pouring out. The lens looked liked a little squishy ball that looked clear. I saw the eyelashes stick out off the eyelid like a chimney sticking out of a roof from a house. I saw the optic nerve stick out of the back of the eye like a dog with its tail sticking out. It was cool to see Dr. Braunstein and Dr. Wen's video of one of their eye surgeries that they made on a patient. I never knew that the pupil can be cut in half. I expected the dissection to be this good. I had a great time with this eye dissection and I want to do this again. Thank you, Dr. Braunstein and Dr.Wen.
I really thought that the eye was awesome. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience. I am so thankful to Mr. Bernstein and Dr. Wen. They made this possible. I thought that the videos of the surgeries were really cool. I thought that the cataract surgery was amazing. How could you put a plastic lens into an eye. The person who invented that plastic that could be put into your eye is flat out, a genius. I never actually got to smell the eye. Everyone in my group said it smelled bad. The only thing I thought that was hard in the eye dissection was trying to to find the lens. We saw the lens, but the group and I thought it was the aqueous humor, because it was squishy. But Dr. Wen helped us and told us it was the lens. I put the lens over a word on a piece of paper they provided us with. The lens magnified and made it look bigger. I loved cutting the eye into two with the scissor. The vitreous humor was black and it gushed out. It was amazing just thinking about the fact that everything that we dissected was actually in our eye. I saw the iris, but I didn't see it that well. If I remember correctly, the iris was blue, but I am not sure. A major thing I learned from this dissection is that the cornea refacts light more than the lens. But the lens magnifies more. The flesh around the eye was really cold. The eye was kind of bouncey too. Well, this will conclude my blog. I hope you like it!
I thought it was going to be a lot different than what it was like. It didn't really smell that bad. It really didn't have a smell. The part that was gross was when the pupil came out. It was a liquid not a solid. I got to squeeze the lens out and believe me it was awesome and gross.
Hi, this is Sienna again. Here are my thoughts after the eye dissection.

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWWW! I did NOT enjoy dissecting the eye! The surgery videos were gross, I couldn't look! I also did not help my group, gross. I just looked at the lens, it was more circular than I had expected. Amanda T. was letting me squeeze her hand (she was just as scared and grossed out as I was). I was okay looking at the screen, not at the surgery videos. I heard that one group played catch with their eye, GROSS!
Those are my thoughts on dissecting the eye.
I thought that the experiment would be scary but it wasn't. While my whole group was working together I was thinking of what to do! Soon after that I got an idea, I decided to help my friends by taking out the lens. After we took out the lens my friend Megan and I named the lens (Squishy). I was happy I participated in the experiment. Now I know that the human eye isn't that scary. I will be looking forward to the next time I dissect something!!!...
